Transguard Celebrates 4,000+ Employees with Outdoor Carnival

Dubai, UAE, 16 September 2022 – In an event more than three years in the making, business solutions provider Transguard Group recently hosted a massive day out for more than 4,000 of its site-based employees. Held at the Etisalat Academy Sports and Leisure Club, the Carnival included games, rides, an impressive roster of international performers, a wide selection of food and great prizes.

“The turnout for the Carnival was fantastic and the enthusiasm throughout the business has been wonderful to see,” said Nick Beer, Chief Financial Officer, Transguard Group. “We’ve made a lot of improvements to past editions of the Carnival, especially in terms of sustainability and the level of engagement from our HQ employees. Based on the overwhelmingly positive feedback we’ve received across the business the Carnival was an all-around success.”

The Carnival’s sustainability focus was apparent on multiple levels, including digital registration (which replaced paper wristbands), reusable water bottles (which avoided more than 40kg of plastic), biodegradable plates and utensils and the recycling of raffle tickets. In addition, more than 130 HQ employees volunteered their time and talent to ensure the smooth set up and organization of the event.

“This edition of the Carnival was a true group effort,” explained Lena ter Laare, Director-Marketing and CSR. “Every moment of the day was filled with our HQ staff pitching in and helping out, all because they wanted our site-based colleagues to enjoy themselves. We have always said that CSR is in Transguard’s DNA, and this truth was front and centre during Carnival.”

Attendees were provided with free transportation from all across the UAE to attend the event, including Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and Ras al Khaimah. Entertainment during the day included the winners of Transguard’s most recent internal talent shows, as well as performances by professional international dance troupes; attendees were also invited on stage to be a part of multiple drumming sessions. Sponsors of the event included Instant Cash, Excellence Driving School and TouchMate, each of whom gave away spectacular prizes including tech gadgets, a television and even a driving course. The final highlight of the day was a raffle draw hosted by Transguard’s Leadership Team that awarded 22 lucky winner with AED500 each.

The next edition of the Transguard Carnival is scheduled for November 2023.

The winners of the awards will be announced during an official ceremony on 2nd October. “Being shortlisted for the Arabia CSR Awards is a testament to the good work of our comprehensive CSR programme and benchmarks our efforts with other companies on a global scale,” said Greg Ward, Managing Director, Transguard Group. “We’re delighted to be shortlisted and recognised for this work.” Known as Dream 2020, Transguard Group’s CSR programme is aimed at reducing waste, preserving the environment and the wellbeing of our people, creating and strengthening sustainable partnerships and having a measurable, positive impact on the community by 2020 and beyond. It is aligned with Transguard’s overall vision and promises that the company will serve the greater good of the community in which it operates in by bringing people and resources together to create value. “An integral part of everything we do, our CSR efforts are woven deep within the way Transguard Group does business,” said Lena ter Laare, Director of Marketing and Corporate Social Responsibility. “To be publicly recognised for these efforts is gratifying, but what’s most exciting is that the Arabia CSR award gives us a dynamic platform to showcase the strategic importance of sustainability and welfare initiatives. This is our responsibility as market leaders, and we’re proud to continue setting standards in the region.” Several new initiatives as part of Transguard’s CSR strategy and Dream 2020 initiative have been launched this year, including a water recycling programme that repurposes waste condensate from AC units for daily cleaning and irrigation purposes (such as cleaning hallways, washing cars and green wall irrigation), and the creation of sustainability gardens throughout Transguard’s accommodations, which upcycles plastic bottles as planters for flowers. In addition, Transguard’s CSR activity calendar for its site-based employees regularly exceeds 300 activities each month across all accommodations. “From educational programmes movie nights to national day celebrations and league sports, plus much more in between, our busy recreation calendar gives our employees a chance to connect with their co-workers and participate in hobbies and activities that they enjoy,” said Rania Tayeh, Head of Corporate Social Responsibility. “These activities are just a small portion of the wellbeing benefits we offer our employees. We plan to expand our CSR programme even further in the coming years and I’m enthusiastic about the positive impact Transguard can continue to have on our community.” The Arabia CSR Awards are the most prestigious and recognised sustainability platform in the region; the programme is widely acknowledged for applying the most stringent and comprehensive standards to its recipients, such as the ten principles of the UN Global Compact, the Global Reporting Initiative and the European Model for Quality Management (EFQM) in its application criteria.

Transguard’s Latest CSR Initiative Benefits Al Mamzar Beach Park

More than 100 company volunteers collected nearly 200 bags of garbage over the weekend

Dubai, United Arab Emirates – More than 100 Transguard employees spent part of this past weekend at the beach, but not in pursuit of a better tan. Instead, these volunteers gave their time and attention to the environment, working together to collect 191 bags of rubbish from Al Mamzar Park near the border of Sharjah.

“Dubai’s beaches comprise some of the emirate’s most popular destinations and working with Dubai Municipality on this project is a great way to show our commitment to continually improving the city where we live and work,” explained Greg Ward, Managing Director.

Organized in conjunction with the Waste Management Department and the Department of Public Parks & Recreational Facilities of Dubai Municipality, 120 Transguard staff donned plastic gloves to collect everything from cigarette ends to disposable barbeque grills during their three hours in Al Mamzar Beach Park. In the spirit of friendly competition, prizes were given to the team that collected the most trash.

“The fact that we had such a great turn out, with everyone from junior team members to Directors and Heads of Department voluntarily giving up part of their weekend for this activity, goes to show that we take CSR very seriously at every level of the business,” Ward said. “I’m proud of the fact that at Transguard we don’t just talk about making a difference; we actually get out there and do it.”

Transguard’s Al Mamzar Beach clean up is the latest in the company’s impressive roster of CSR activities: In 2018 the company’s CSR initiatives resulted in a savings of more than 2.2 million litres of water, the recycling of nearly 4 tons of paper and 47 tons of plastic and the organization of more than 2,300 events at staff accommodations.
