Transguard Celebrates 4,000+ Employees with Outdoor Carnival

Share:

Dubai, UAE, 16 September 2022 – In an event more than three years in the making, business solutions provider Transguard Group recently hosted a massive day out for more than 4,000 of its site-based employees. Held at the Etisalat Academy Sports and Leisure Club, the Carnival included games, rides, an impressive roster of international performers, a wide selection of food and great prizes.

“The turnout for the Carnival was fantastic and the enthusiasm throughout the business has been wonderful to see,” said Nick Beer, Chief Financial Officer, Transguard Group. “We’ve made a lot of improvements to past editions of the Carnival, especially in terms of sustainability and the level of engagement from our HQ employees. Based on the overwhelmingly positive feedback we’ve received across the business the Carnival was an all-around success.”

The Carnival’s sustainability focus was apparent on multiple levels, including digital registration (which replaced paper wristbands), reusable water bottles (which avoided more than 40kg of plastic), biodegradable plates and utensils and the recycling of raffle tickets. In addition, more than 130 HQ employees volunteered their time and talent to ensure the smooth set up and organization of the event.

“This edition of the Carnival was a true group effort,” explained Lena ter Laare, Director-Marketing and CSR. “Every moment of the day was filled with our HQ staff pitching in and helping out, all because they wanted our site-based colleagues to enjoy themselves. We have always said that CSR is in Transguard’s DNA, and this truth was front and centre during Carnival.”

Attendees were provided with free transportation from all across the UAE to attend the event, including Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and Ras al Khaimah. Entertainment during the day included the winners of Transguard’s most recent internal talent shows, as well as performances by professional international dance troupes; attendees were also invited on stage to be a part of multiple drumming sessions. Sponsors of the event included Instant Cash, Excellence Driving School and TouchMate, each of whom gave away spectacular prizes including tech gadgets, a television and even a driving course. The final highlight of the day was a raffle draw hosted by Transguard’s Leadership Team that awarded 22 lucky winner with AED500 each.

The next edition of the Transguard Carnival is scheduled for November 2023.

Transguard Group Releases Water and Energy Conservation Figures

Dubai, United Arab Emirates – The UAE’s leading business solutions provider Transguard Group officially embarked on its CSR journey six years ago, with a promise to serve the greater good of the community in which it operates. The group demonstrated significant progress in the period between April 2021 and December 2021. Transguard Group:

  • Recycled 19 million gallons of grey water, which was reused for its flushing system
  • Saved 25 million gallons of water across Transguard’s entire property portfolio
  • Saved 3 million kWh across Transguard’s entire property portfolio as well as 3.8 million kWh across its clients’ portfolios. Together, this equals the greenhouse gas emissions avoided by 205,048 trash bags of waste being recycled instead of being added to a landfill
  • Produced 1,292 MWh of clean energy through a dedicated solar power project; aligned with the Dubai Shams Initiative, the project has so far saved nearly 1000 tons of CO2
  • Transguard Group also handed over 111 kg of plastic bottles to the Emirates Environmental Group (EEG) as part of the Dubai Chambers “Let’s Reduce & Recycle Campaign”
  • In addition, 100 Transguard employees participated in the UAE Clean Up drive and collected 16,293 kg of waste from sites across four Emirates, and also collected 358 kg of plastic and 177 pieces of mobile phones as part of the One Root, One Communi Tree project. Both initiatives were organised by Emirates Environmental Group (EEG)

“As one of the largest employers in the UAE, we are firmly committed to making a difference and have consistently taken steps to achieve greater sustainability. With 28 accommodation facilities and a large fleet that transports more than 25,000 staff per day, we are highly aware of our potential impact on the environment. Therefore, sustainability is not just a goal, it is a key pillar in everything we do,” explained Dr. Greg Ward, Managing Director, Transguard Group.

Transguard Group’s Corporate Social Responsibility programme is aimed at reducing waste, preserving the environment and the wellbeing of its people, creating and strengthening sustainable partnerships, and having a measurable positive impact on the community. Over the years it has launched several initiatives, but conserving water and recycling remain a top priority. In October 2021, the company has also achieved a Dubai Chamber CSR Advanced Label in recognition for its initiatives.

“Transguard Group has always taken a mindful approach to the environment, which has not only had a positive impact on the community but has also led to exceptional savings,” concluded Lena ter Laare, Director of Marketing and Corporate Social Responsibility, Transguard Group.

Transguard Achieves Net-Zero Emissions

Share:

Dubai, United Arab Emirates – Nearly one year after launching an extensive solar panel project, Transguard has announced that it has reached net-zero emissions in one of its accommodations. A combination of energy-saving initiatives and solar panels in one accommodation in particular has generated an impressive 139,000 kWh of energy while consuming only 113,000 kWh, with the excess energy (26,000 kWh) being fed back to DEWA’s power grid.

Relying on a 452 kWp rooftop solar panel plant, Transguard’s net-zero accommodation is just one of the residential facilities of the business solutions provider that is equipped with the energy storing modules: The full project extends across more than 1,200 highly efficient solar panels that were installed in April 2020 across multiple accommodations. Combined, these panels produce 83% of Transguard’s total energy requirements for staff housing and have produced nearly 600,000 kWh over the last 10 months with the result of a carbon offset of 425 metric tons.

“To put this in perspective, the reduction in our carbon footprint is equivalent to just over 1 million miles driven by the average passenger vehicle,” explains Greg Ward, Managing Director, Transguard Group. “This is an exciting development that actively showcases Transguard’s proactive commitment to sustainability.”

This milestone is firmly in line with the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050, which was launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai and is aimed at providing clean energy to 25% of the emirate’s power grid by 2030, with the target increasing to 75% clean energy by 2050.

Additional on-going initiatives include an extensive HVAC retrofit project and 154 metric-ton reduction in Transguard’s carbon emissions as a result of replacing 2,000 fluorescent bulbs with LED lights. In addition, a water efficiency programme launched in 2019 has reduced the consumption of water in Transguard accommodations by 14% each year since its inception.

“Sustainability is a key pillar in everything we do,” Ward concludes. “We are committed to the continual exploration of new areas where we can make a ‘green difference’ for our employees, the country and the world.”

Transguard Launches Sustainability Garden and Water Conservation Projects

Share:
Upcycled planting materials are the blueprint for the company’s latest green space initiative, with an additional water conservation projected to save 4.5 million gallons of water each year

Transguard Group, a leading UAE-based business services provider, has announced two unique initiatives that underscore the company’s commitment to improving its impact on the environment: a sustainability garden and a water conservation project that repurposes condensate from air conditioning units.

The first, a sustainability garden, features a living plant wall constructed from upcycled plastic bottles as its centrepiece. Located in one of Transguard’s accommodations, the garden area – which includes a variety of plants such as allamanda and other mixed flowers – was designed, painted, planted and organized by a team of volunteers from the company’s headquarters; completing the sustainability garden are nine hand-crafted picnic tables that were built by trainees at Transguard’s Centre of Excellence. Wi-Fi is also available in the seating area, making it easy for residents of the accommodation to virtually connect with their friends and family.

In addition to the sustainability garden, an affordably-priced convenience store for Transguard staff, TMart, has also recently opened its doors to residents of the accommodation. This is the first store of its kind created by Transguard, which plans to use the Al Quoz location as the blueprint for shops in the company’s other accommodations.

“The original idea was to create a new recreational space for our site-based staff,” said Greg Ward, Transguard’s Managing Director. “That’s where we started, but my team kept evolving the concept until it included more and more wonderful features like the sustainability garden and seating area. I’m very proud of the volunteers who put in the time and energy to make this outdoor space possible.”

The second initiative from Transguard is a water conservation project that captures and collects waste condensate from air conditioning units and recycles it for everyday tasks. The result is a dramatic reduction in water consumption: For example, a traditional car wash will use 79 gallons of water; a car washed with the recycled condensate uses only 6 gallons of water, a reduction of 92%.

The pilot programme, which is also located in one of the company’s accommodations, has already saved 10,824 imperial gallons of water since the programme began in February 2019. Once implemented across all Transguard accommodations in Dubai, the project is expected to save 4.5 million gallons of water and to generate more than AED 280,000 in annual savings for Transguard. Coming full circle, the water used to irrigate Transguard’s sustainability garden is sourced from this same condensate.

“As part of our ‘Think Green’ campaign – a component of our Corporate Social Responsibility programme – conserving water and recycling are a priority for Transguard, and both of these initiatives tick those boxes,” Ward concluded. “I’m excited to take these initatives into our other accommodations as the year progresses.”
